Description
Rare WWI Rimless Brodie British Helmet in choice condition. Full original liner and strap. Excellent paint and appearance. Comes with outrageously RARE cloth cover. Cover is held on with draw string. Only one I have had in 30 years! I have had 2 of the burlap versions, but never the heavy cloth cover version. Cover does not appear to be marked. Don't miss it, you won't have another shot at one of these. It really is the best rimless Brodie I have seen in a couple of years. This is an original example of the early "Rim-less" Brodie helmet. Patented by John L. Brodie in London in 1915. The first models were made without the applied round rim which was sandwiched over the raw edge of the helmet. This was changed to what became known as the Mk1 sometime in early 1916. This helmet is one of the types produced before the introduction of that applied rim. Liner and strap remain well installed with their original attachment to the shell.
The condition is outstanding outside as well as inside with its original tar-cloth and netted liner with riveted chinstrap. The Leather parts of the liner and the Leather strap remains in supple condition. I have looked but have not found a soldier's name or unit markings written inside the helmet. Some top wool pad material loss and staining from age and use. Importantly, No strange smells emit from the liner.
The vast majority of these first model Rim-less helmets were issued out and used up by the end of the Great War, WWI. Surviving example are extremely rare. This one remains in 100% original condition with no post-period alteration or repair. Helmet offering here Includes the original cloth cover shown in the pictures.
100% original.
